GATE CS 2027 Syllabus: What Changed

Comparing the official 2026 and 2027 PDFs, the GATE CS 2027 syllabus differs from 2026 in three of its ten sections. Digital Logic newly lists the Karnaugh map and tabular method for minimization, and Computer Organization newly lists hardwired and microprogrammed control unit design. The Computer Networks section is substantially shorter: UDP, SMTP and framing are not listed by name in 2027, while DNS, HTTP and TCP still are.

Each entry quotes both PDFs. “Not named” means the words do not appear in the 2027 PDF, not that a topic is out of scope.

About this resource

IAE Academy compared the official GATE 2026 Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) syllabus, published by IIT Guwahati, with the official GATE 2027 CS syllabus, published by IIT Madras, section by section. The table lists what is newly listed in 2027, what is no longer listed by name, and where only the words attached to an item listed in both years changed.

Seven of the ten sections, Engineering Mathematics, Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Compiler Design, Operating Systems and Databases, carry no listing change at all. Almost everything that moved is in Computer Networks, whose 2027 wording is substantially shorter than its 2026 wording.

“Not named” means the 2026 words do not appear in the 2027 PDF. It does not mean the topic is out of scope: an item worded differently in 2027 may still cover it, and a shorter syllabus line is not a promise that nothing under it can be asked. Every entry quotes both PDFs.

What's included

  • ✓A section-by-section table covering all 10 GATE CS sections
  • ✓Every Computer Networks change, item by item, with both years quoted
  • ✓Items newly listed in 2027, and items no longer listed by name
  • ✓Changes to the words attached to an item listed in both years
  • ✓Answers to common questions, each drawn from the table

How to use this resource

Go to the row for the section you want to check. Each column answers one question: what is newly listed in 2027, what it no longer names, and what was reworded.

Read “not named” literally. A protocol that is no longer named may still be examinable under a broader line, and it remains part of the subject however the syllabus is worded, do not drop a topic from your preparation on the strength of this table alone.

For the complete wording of any item, open the official GATE 2027 syllabus in IAE Academy's Resource Centre.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Karnaugh map in the GATE CS 2027 syllabus?+

Yes, it is newly listed in 2027. Section 2 (Digital Logic) reads “Boolean algebra and minimization – algebraic technique, Karnaugh map, tabular method”, where the 2026 syllabus listed “Minimization” without naming a method. The same section lists “Design of combinational and sequential circuits” where 2026 listed “Combinational and sequential circuits”.

Is cache memory mapping in the GATE CS 2027 syllabus?+

Yes, it is newly listed in 2027. Section 3 reads “Memory interfacing and hierarchy: performance, cache memory mapping”, where 2026 read “Memory hierarchy: cache, main memory and secondary storage”. Cache is listed in both years. Main memory and secondary storage do not appear by name in 2027.

Is UDP in the GATE CS 2027 syllabus?+

It does not appear by name in 2027. The 2026 Computer Networks section listed “Transport layer: flow control and congestion control, UDP, TCP, sockets”, and the 2027 section lists “TCP- flow control and congestion control, socket API”. TCP and sockets are still listed.

Are SMTP and FTP in the GATE CS 2027 syllabus?+

They do not appear by name in 2027. The 2026 syllabus listed “Application layer protocols: DNS, SMTP, HTTP, FTP, Email” in Section 10, and the 2027 syllabus lists “DNS and HTTP”. ARP, DHCP and ICMP are also not named in 2027.

Is shortest path in the GATE CS 2027 syllabus?+

It does not appear by name in Section 10 (Computer Networks) in 2027, where 2026 listed “Routing protocols: shortest path, flooding, distance vector and link state routing” and 2027 lists “Distance vector and link state routing”. Shortest paths are listed in Section 5 (Algorithms) in both years.
