Frequently asked questions
Do these GATE BT papers include answer keys or worked solutions?+
Seven of them come with the organising institute’s own answer key. For 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2026 the key is a separate download beside the paper; the 2020, 2021 and 2022 papers carry it at the end. Each key is a table giving, for all 65 questions, the question type, the section, and either the correct option or the accepted numerical range. The 2019, 2020 and 2022 to 2026 papers are also in the study library, with each question's official answer and, where solved, its worked solution.
Which years of GATE BT papers are in this set?+
Nine papers, one for each year from 2018 to 2026. The 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2026 papers are hosted on this site as the organising institutes published them (the 2018 copy is the one archived on IIT Kanpur’s GATE site); the 2020 paper is a printout of IIT Delhi’s GATE 2020 web page, with its key.
The GATE BT syllabus changed for 2027 — what changed?+
The 2027 PDF has six sections where 2026 had seven. There is no counterpart to the 2026 Bioprocess Engineering and Process Biotechnology section: its Bioreaction Engineering list, from rate law to Damkoehler number, is printed inside Section 4 in 2027, while that section's own 2026 list of thermodynamics and transport processes is no longer listed by name. Section 2 newly lists glycolysis, the Lac operon and cytokines. An older question may therefore sit on wording the 2027 syllabus does not print — which says the 2026 wording is absent, not that the topic is out of scope. What marking scheme should I apply to an older BT paper?+
The 2027 one. A test paper runs three hours and carries 65 questions for 100 marks, of which General Aptitude is 10 questions and 15 marks; in BT the remaining 85 marks are the subject component, of which Engineering Mathematics carries 13 (brochure, pages 4 and 24). A wrong 1-mark MCQ deducts 1/3 and a wrong 2-mark MCQ deducts 2/3; MSQ and NAT carry no negative marking; and no question carries partial marking.
