GATE EC 2027 Syllabus: What Changed
Comparing the official 2026 and 2027 PDFs, the GATE EC 2027 syllabus newly lists items in six of its eight sections, such as scaling in MOSFETs in Section 3 and phase margin in Section 4. Two sections have items no longer listed by name, including first order equations (linear and nonlinear). Three sections reword an item listed in both years, such as compensators in Section 6.

Source: the official GATE 2026 Electronics and Communication (EC) syllabus (IIT Guwahati) and the official GATE 2027 Electronics and Communication (EC) syllabus (IIT Madras), as on 15 September 2026. Each entry quotes both PDFs. “Not named” means the words do not appear in the 2027 PDF, not that a topic is out of scope.
About this resource
IAE Academy compared the official GATE 2026 Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) syllabus, published by IIT Guwahati, with the official GATE 2027 EC syllabus, published by IIT Madras, section by section. The table lists what is newly listed in 2027, what is no longer listed by name, and where only the words attached to an item listed in both years changed.
“Not named” means the 2026 words do not appear in the 2027 PDF. It does not mean the topic is out of scope: an item worded differently in 2027 may still cover it. Where an item appears in both years, the table says so instead of reporting it as new or gone.
Every entry quotes both PDFs, so you can check each one against the same two public documents.
What's included
- ✓A section-by-section table covering all 8 GATE EC sections
- ✓Items newly listed in 2027, and items no longer listed by name
- ✓Changes to the words attached to an item listed in both years
- ✓Answers to common questions, each drawn from the table
How to use this resource
Go to the row for the section you want to check. Each column answers one question: what is newly listed in 2027, what it no longer names, and what was reworded.
Read “not named” literally, and check the full 2027 syllabus before treating any topic as gone.
For the complete wording of any item, open the official GATE 2027 syllabus in IAE Academy's Resource Centre.
Frequently asked questions
Is scaling in MOSFETs in the GATE EC 2027 syllabus?+
Yes, it is newly listed in 2027. Section 3 (Electronic Devices) now reads “MOS capacitor, MOSFET, scaling in MOSFETs, LED”, and the same section newly lists formation of energy bands in solids.
Are first order equations in the GATE EC 2027 syllabus?+
They do not appear by name in 2027. The 2026 Differential Equations list opened with “First order equations (linear and nonlinear)”, and the 2027 list opens with linear differential equations, the Euler-Cauchy equation and nonhomogeneous equations.
Is the Nyquist sampling theorem in the GATE EC 2027 syllabus?+
Yes, it is listed in 2027. Section 2 (Networks, Signals and Systems) names “Nyquist sampling theorem, sampling and reconstruction”, where the 2026 syllabus read “sampling theorem and applications”.
Is lag-lead compensation in the GATE EC 2027 syllabus?+
It does not appear by name in 2027. Section 6 (Control Systems) lists “compensators, PID controller” where the 2026 syllabus read “Lag, lead and lag-lead compensation”, so PID controller is newly listed.
Is source coding in the GATE EC 2027 syllabus?+
Yes, it is newly listed in 2027. Section 7 (Communications) reads “Information Theory: Entropy, source coding, mutual information and channel capacity theorem”. Section 4 newly lists dominant-pole (Miller) compensation and phase margin.
