The partial derivative of the function
with respect to at the point is
ANSWER
, which is option (B).
Official answer: BSource: Official answer key, GATE 2020 EC (IIT Delhi)
Differentiate partially with respect to , treating and as constants.
First term, by the chain rule: .
Second term: the factor does not depend on , so .
Adding the two terms:
Substitute . Since , . Also .
The value is , which is option (B).
KEY IDEA
In a partial derivative with respect to , treat and as constants. The chain rule gives the exponential term the factor , and the second term is linear in , so its derivative is just its coefficient . Differentiate in general first, then substitute the point.
WATCH OUT FOR
Leaving out the chain-rule factor on the first term. That gives , which is not an option, or, with the sign slipped, a wrong answer such as . The other common slip is substituting before differentiating, which removes the -dependence you are meant to differentiate.
