Answer and solution

ANSWER

, which is option (A).

Official answer: ASource: Official answer key, GATE 2025 DA (IIT Roorkee)

  1. Each has and . Since the are independent, .

  2. Mean: .

  3. Variance: , so the standard deviation is .

  4. By the Central Limit Theorem, is approximately standard normal, so , where is the standard normal CDF as defined in the question.

  5. Standardise the limits: and .

  6. Therefore , which is option (A).

  7. Option (B) would need limits at and option (C) at , so neither matches. Option (D) plugs the raw values 60 and 90 into without standardising.

KEY IDEA

A sum of i.i.d. Bernoulli() variables has mean and variance . The CLT lets you standardise with these and read the probability as a difference of standard normal CDF values.

WATCH OUT FOR

Using the Bernoulli variance instead of the variance of the sum . Another slip is forgetting to standardise, which gives option (D), or dividing by the variance 56.25 instead of the standard deviation 7.5.
