Answer and solution
ANSWER
.
Official answer: 3.95 to 4.05Source: Official answer key, GATE 2020 EC (IIT Delhi)
Sinusoidal steady state (frequency response): the poles of are at and . Both lie in the left half-plane because , so the system is stable and a sinusoidal steady state exists. For the input the steady-state output is . Here and .
Magnitude at : .
Match the output amplitudes:
Use : this gives .
Check with the phase (in radians): . This matches the printed , which confirms .
KEY IDEA
In the steady state, a stable LTI system driven by gives . Matching the output amplitude at gives directly. The printed phase of then works as an independent check.
WATCH OUT FOR
Three slips are common. (1) Leaving out the input amplitude 5 and setting . That gives , which has no real solution. (2) Treating as degrees: it is in radians, so a phase check done in degrees fails. (3) Solving from the phase alone and getting wrong, when the amplitude equation gives the answer in one line.
