ANSWER
— option (C).
Official answer: CSource: Official answer key, GATE 2020 EE (IIT Delhi)
Conservative field condition: on all of space, is conservative exactly when . Components: , , .
-component of the curl: .
-component of the curl: .
-component of the curl: .
Check with a potential: gives , which is with .
So , which is option (C).
KEY IDEA
A field defined on all of space is conservative exactly when its curl is zero, so it is the gradient of a scalar potential. Set each of the three curl components to zero. Each one fixes one constant: the -component gives , the -component gives and the -component gives . Then check by building the potential .
WATCH OUT FOR
The usual slip is the sign or order in the -component of the curl. It is , and reversing it gives , which matches no option. The other mistake is testing divergence (solenoidal) instead of curl. Here for every choice of , because no component depends on its own coordinate, so a divergence test says nothing. Option (D) is a trap: with every the curl is .
