Circular convolution property of the DFT: a 4-point circular convolution in becomes a point-by-point product in , so for .
Multiply term by term: so .
Inverse DFT: the forward DFT given in the question has no scale factor, so the goes on the inverse: .
At every exponential equals 1, so is the average of the DFT samples:
Check: is real and , which is what a real, circularly even produces, so the result is consistent. .
KEY IDEA
A circular convolution of length becomes a product of the -point DFTs, . Setting in the inverse DFT turns every exponential into 1, so . You never have to recover or .
WATCH OUT FOR
Leaving out the in the inverse DFT gives . Because the forward DFT given here has no scale factor, the whole belongs to the inverse. The other slip is a sign error in : , not . With that error and come out as , and the sum gives .
