Answer and solution
ANSWER
Official answer: 5Source: Official answer key, GATE 2025 IN (IIT Roorkee)
Sample the DTFT at equally spaced frequencies :
Take the 3-point IDFT and swap the order of summation:
The bracketed sum is when is a multiple of and otherwise. So sampling in frequency aliases in time: the length-4 sequence wraps modulo 3,
For , the samples with are and . (Equivalently, , so enters exactly as a sample at would.) Hence and , .
Numerical check. With we have and . So and . In the same way . Then .
KEY IDEA
Taking samples of a DTFT and inverting them with an -point IDFT gives the time-aliased sequence . Here the sequence has 4 samples and , so folds back onto .
WATCH OUT FOR
Answering treats the 3-point DFT as though it simply cut off . That is wrong because is less than the sequence length 4, so the time-domain aliasing puts on top of . A second slip is to take as , the sum of all the samples. is a frequency-domain value; is the average of the three .
