Transfer function from state space: .
, so .
Adjoint times B:
Multiply by C: .
Add the feedthrough :
Stability check: both poles are at (left half-plane), so the natural response dies out and a sinusoidal steady state exists: .
Frequency response: . The steady-state output is zero only when , i.e. . With this gives . Physically, the zeros lie on the -axis and block a sinusoid of exactly that frequency.
KEY IDEA
For a stable system, the steady-state response to is . It vanishes only at a frequency where has a zero on the -axis. So find and look for purely imaginary zeros. Here , whose zeros are at .
WATCH OUT FOR
Dropping the feedthrough term . Without it, , whose only zero is the real , and is never zero for . Other slips: getting a sign wrong in the adjoint of (it is ), and not checking stability before using the frequency-response argument.
